Chemical Peels
Chemical Peels in Charlotte, NC
illumeMD offers professional chemical peels using VI Peel® and Glytone® systems to brighten tone, smooth texture, clear acne, and reduce discoloration. Every plan begins with a clinician-led consultation so we can match the right formula and peel depth to your goals, skin tone, and downtime window.
Why a consultation matters
- Depth selection: We match light vs medium peels to your goals and schedule.
- Targeted formulas: We choose the right acid blend for acne, pigment, or texture (e.g., TCA/retinoic/salicylic with Vi; glycolic/mandelic/pyruvic/Jessner options with Glytone).
- Safety & plan: We review your skincare and medications, set expectations, and build a series/maintenance plan for best results.
Light vs. Medium Peels
Light (superficial) peels
Refresh the epidermis to brighten, decongest pores, and even tone with little to no downtime. Often used as maintenance every 2–5 weeks depending on skin response.
Medium-depth peels
Penetrate deeper for more dramatic change in fewer sessions—effective for wrinkles, acne, and hyperpigmentation. Expect visible flaking/peeling over several days; results clarify within ~1 week.
Vi Peel® — medium-depth change for pigment, acne, and aging
Vi Peel formulas commonly combine TCA, retinoic acid, salicylic acid, vitamin C, and phenol in clinician-guided blends. Options like Precision Plus target discoloration; Purify targets acne; and Advanced focuses on texture and fine lines. Designed to be safe for all Fitzpatrick skin tones.

Glytone® Customized Chemical Peels — precise, even penetration
Glytone Professional systems (including Enerpeel® technology) are customized with glycolic, mandelic, pyruvic, Jessner blends and more for the face, hands, neck, chest, or back—allowing even penetration with less surface irritation.

What to expect
- Treatment time: about 20–30 minutes per area
- Sensation: warmth or tingling during application; comfort strategies are used
- Downtime: light peels = subtle flaking; Vi medium peels = visible peeling days 2–5; results clarify over ~1 week
- Series: many clients see best results with a series (e.g., 3–6 visits) and periodic maintenance
FAQs
Are chemical peels safe for darker skin tones?
Yes. Vi Peel is indicated for all Fitzpatrick I–VI, and we select Glytone strengths appropriate for melanin-rich skin. Your consultation ensures the right prep and peel choice.
How often can I get a peel?
Light peels can be scheduled as maintenance every 2–5 weeks; medium peels are spaced further apart. Your provider will tailor the cadence to your skin and goals.
Which peel is right for me—Vi or Glytone?
It depends on your main concern (acne, pigment, texture, fine lines), skin tone, and downtime window. We often choose Vi for medium-depth change and Glytone for customizable light-to-moderate resurfacing and maintenance.
